'For to us a Child is born'

'For to us a child is born, to us a son is given: and the government will be upon his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace'.  Isaiah 9:6

Last sunday of Advent I've beenscrapping a picture of Mary, Josef and baby Jesus and during the process of doing so I was somewhat meditating and praying. Being thankful to God and having thoughts about the things that happened to me, my family and friends. Remembering all things good and bad; the economic crisis, my quest to find a job and my hope for happiness and health in the new year to come.

This is how I made it:
First I searched the internet for a children's colouring picture of the Christmas nativity scene. I found a very basic one; a bit looking like a church window with stained glass.
So I made a copy of that colouring picture and used it as a template for my design on a large paper, size 52x47 cm. Then I looked for nice scraps of paper in my stash. For the rays of the sun I took shiny gold patterned papers, shiny red, paper with a velvet decoration; white, gold and yellow. I made the figure of Mary  with several papers in blue/white, and I clothed Joseph in chocolate brown card stock and baby Jesus in a white embossed paper. After cutting and glueing all those scraps of paper it looked all right, but you know me: I do like bling and glitter when I 'm scrapping. So I took some gold coloured small rope and ribbon - in these cases I'm always glad I have a lot of ribbon and lace in my stash - and glued it on the separation lines between the patterned spots. Patchwork with paper!

Have a wonderful Christmas time!

'Christmas dinner and candlelights'

Hi!  Don't you enjoy this time of year? It's so cosy at home when the lights in the Christmas tree are a glow and the radio is playing the familiar Christmas tunes again. I like to sing along, but don't know if my neighbours appreciate my singing.... Haha.
In the meantime I'm making a grocery list to start shopping tomorrow for the holidays ( a bit late, I know!) Anyway, I like to cook for my family when they come over for Christmas and I'm looking forward to being in their company.

A few years ago I bought this vintage wafer drum - it must be approximately a 100 years old now. It's a bit damaged and rusty, but I like the winter decoration on it, especially the picture of the Christmas dinner in an era long ago.
So I took a photo of it to use it for my digital scrapping.  And now it is a freebie for your scrapping purposes. Enjoy and have a very merry Christmas!

A few Tags for Christmas

Hi there!

It's the time to make preparations for Christmas again. Days are getting shorter and the nights seem longer; the perfect time for scrapping!
I made these tags for Christmas. I used the paper with the birds 'Walking in the Forest' from Maja Design, and several other card stock papers. 'Walking in het Forest' has an autumn look, but I wanted to use it also for some of my Christmas scrap projects.
Have a nice time scrapping during the festive season! Warm winter wishes!

A masculine and a feminine birthday card

Hi!

This week I made a few birthday cards. In the month november a few family members of mine celebrate their birthdays, so I made these cards for their special day.

Here's the masculine card. I used blue card stock, made a double A5 card, and cut a mat of patterned paper 14x20 cm, a square brown mat of 13,5x13,5 cm and used a white pearl colored linnen patterned card stock size 13x13 on top. I distressed the top with Ranger distress ink Vintage Photo and stampend the images on the left with two nautical silicone stamps by Viva Decor 'My Paper World'. I don't remember the name of the brand of the stamp of the boat on the right anymore, it 's in my stash in a box with all sorts of nice stamps. I stamped the boats with a mix of Ranger distress ink Vintage Photo, Faded Jeans en Ranger Archival Ink, and ordinary black ink.
I made a bow with twine and a small brown ribbon, and added a 'silver' metal button, a heart and an anchor. As a final touch I made the waves sparkle with a bit of silver glitter.

For the feminine card I used the same measurements; but this time I chose the Viva Decor 'My Paper World' silicone stamps 'Flower Heart & Rose' and the 'Happy Birthday Stamp of the same brand. As embellishments I added a 3d flower of a hydrangea and a lace ribbon and a bow I made of several small pieces of ribbon in the colours of the card.

'When hearts listen, angels sing'

It has been a while since I posted another page in my art journal, but finally I'm ready to show it to you.
First I made the background with at least two layers of gesso, gel medium on a piece of lace, and a lot of color to give the spread a very rich and golden gloss. I liked the result very much, but could not decide what words and pictures to use. So I did n't do anything to it for several weeks. My art journal was gathering dust on my desk....
But finally I had this idea, with this inspiring anonymous quote! Two nice vintage pictures of angels on the left page. Ofcourse I had to add a bit extra gold shimmering on the clothes and wings of the angels! On the other page I used an alpha stencil to write the quote 'When hearts listen, angels sing'.

Seems like I'm getting a bit in the Christmas spirit now the clock is turned back an hour, the autumnleaves are falling and I 'm developing ideas to create my Christmas cards of this  year....

Sweets for my sweet....

Do you collect empty candy tins or cardboard boxes? You can alter them with scrapbook paper and embellishments in to sweet little boxes. Don't they make nice gifts for your sweet friends?

'Feeling blue'

Finally time to post a new spread in my art journal.  I made these blue pages a few months a go, but did n't quite know what to do with them. Since the blue color dominated the pages, I decided to add the words 'and I'm feeling blue'. ( I felt a bit melancholic at that moment...but I felt much better after spending some time with my 3 precious P's (Pens, Paint and Paper).

I used several torn pieces of paper on the pages, added blue glimmer mist to get a bit of sparkling color and made the text with the help of alpha stencils. As a finishing touch: two blue ribbons and a few 3-d flowers.

'It Blomcke' card

And here is the card I made with the digital scrapbook overlay I posted yesterday. I sprayed a bit of gold paint on it and embellished the card with pearls,  a nice bow and did the cross stitch with my sewing machine. I think that enhanced the vintage look of it even more.

A digital vintage style overlay freebie and brush freebie

Since the weather is very cloudy today I made a digital brush and overlay for use in my digital scrapbooking projects.
The text I used is a quote of a poem by a Frisian author of the 19th century, Rein Baukes Windsma (1801-1862).

I 'll try and translate it for you:

Bonus.
The small flower

Lovely little flower! Oh! Your fragrance smells so sweet
What a nice color you have indeed!
Your red cheeks smile at me
so friendly, so happy and glad:
so beautiful in bloom for all to see!

Summer bouquet on a card

Hallo,

Since it 's summer I made a colourful card with Spellbinders Heirloom die cut and used several papers and ribbons, buttons and embellishments. I like this card very much, it's full of colour and vibrant like summer and the vintage look of the card is still there, I think.

Another birthday card vintage style in blue and gold

Hi,

Since I had some scraps left I made another birthday card. This time in blue, white and gold tones.

A birthday card and a printable vintage photo freebie

Hallo there!

This birthday card is for a dear friend of mine who loves music.
I used plain Kraft card stock for the base of the double A5 card. I used some patterned papers from my own stock (don't know anymore where I got it) and used spellbinders card creator 'Heirloom legacy' to die cut  and emboss white card stock. I distressed the white die cuts with Ranger distress 'vintage photo' and 'tattered rose'. Oh, and I used a few Maja papers as well. The flowers were handmade earlier, so I glued those on, and added buttons, lace and a nice old illustration of a banjo and one with the text 'Happy Birthday' as embellishments.

I inherited an old photo album with a lot of late 19th century and early 20th century photo's. This picture of a couple of musicians was also in the album. I reckon these youngsters of approximately 1909 decided to dress up as foreign musicians to take part  in a parade of a rural festival in the north of Friesland.  Although they look very serious, it must have been fun!

'Be like a flower...'

A quote for the month of May: "Be like a flower and turn your face to the sun" - Kahlil Gibran.

I made a collage of several patterned papers and used pink glitter, a green pen for the word art, 3d flowers to complete this spread in my art journal.

'Celebrate freedom'

The fifth day of May it's 'Bevrijdingsdag' in the Netherlands. I made this spread in my art journal to commemorate all the men and women who fought for our freedom in World War II.

'Breathe'

I love the blue and green metallic colors and the silver glimmer mist I used to make these pages. Let me breathe the fresh air of spring!

'20 cards'

As you can see I have been productive with making cards. I made twenty in one day! I think I will give them as a birthday present,  in a nice box with 20 matching envelopes.  A lovely present, is n't it?

'The beauty of a rose'

Yesterday I started reading a book by dutch author Thera Coppens about princess Sophie van Oranje-Nassau (1824-1897) who married Carl Alexander von Saksen-Weimar-Eisenach. It inspired me to make this spread.
I used several glossy acryl paints and a lace stencil to make the pattern of the lace in white. I printed the text and distressed the words. I did the same with the picture of 'la mode illustrée'.

'Blossom in April'

The month of April has been quite warm this year over here in the Netherlands. It seems to me as if my garden is blooming a month ahead in time.  Usually the trees blossom in May and now their blossom  is already gone and blown by the wind. My hydrangeas are growing rapidly, so  I'm waiting now for the white, pink and blue flowers to color my small garden.

I made this spread with a nice quote about 'blossom in April'.  It did n't quite turn out as I had in mind, but whatever…better next time.

'Reading'

Reading books is one of my favorite pastimes. Especially on a gloomy sunday when the weather is grey and awful. I like to sit down in a snug fauteuil, having a nice cup of tea,  and to read a story. With Moeska the cat on my lap I am am as content as I can be.

I found some nice quotes, which I would like to incorporate in my art journaling.
The pages turned out to be quite dark, so I used some glimmer mist and added a few sparkling strass stones.

And by the way,  Moeska says hello!

'Study the past' *

When I saw my pages again this morning, it was n't exactly what I hoped it would be. I decided to add a bit of gold color and a few flowers to add some sparkle and I made the lettering a bit darker to make it more visible. I like the result much better now!

'Study the past…'

Allthough I have been very busy this week, I still managed to spare some time to create two pages in my art journal. So glad I had a couple of pages prepared earlier by painting some backgrounds. Since I promised myself to do an art journal page every week,  I had to create something!  Anyway it is very relaxing.

This time I used a quote of Confucius: 'Study the past, if you would define the future'.  I chose a picture   of a painting of 'Megilla' by John William Godward, printed it with my inkjet printer and cut it to the size I wanted, printed another one and used that as an reflection of the first glued picture. It is as if the woman is gazing at herself in a mirror, thinking about the past or the future. It is possible both.

Enjoy your weekend! And if you 're in the Netherlands: it 's 'Museumweekend'!

'Pansies for thoughts'

It's almost april, and the sun is shining bright. Daffodils, hyacinths and pansies are blooming in my small garden. I love pansies. They are such colorful yet delicate flowers. They remind me of my dear grandfather who grew the most beautiful pansies. I came across this quote of Shakespeare, and it fits my sentiment perfectly.

How did I make this spread in my art journal?
Well  I painted dark green card stock with yellow, yellow ocre,
prussian blue and white, and mixed those colors.  Then I  used a printed picture of a basket of pansies (thank you Far Far Hill) and glued that on the pages. Next I painted some color over the pansies and the basket with matching colors, so the flowers would pop up a bit. Oh, and I stamped the background when it was dry with a text stamp of Viva decor and Stampology pearl clear stamp ink pad. I made a label, painted it en colored it and the quote with gel pens. For the first sentence of the quote I used an alpha stencil and painted the lettering yellow and added contour with an aqua marker.
